I really like Japanese Horror Films, mostly because they:
1. do not follow Hollywood formula
2. have unpredictable storylines
3. have simple dialogue
4. use stilted exaggerated acting that STILL works
5. retain slow creepy cinematic ghost images
Reincarnation was no exception. I happen to chance upon it on ChillerTV last night and didn’t finish the film because it got too creepy watching it by myself. I did, however, record the whole movie and watched it again before lunch. (LOL) Reincarnation is a cross between The Shining, and Ring 0, making use of the killing spree concept inside a hotel + a play/movie which the protagonist involved in.
I watched a few more scary shows (The Haunting episodes) after that, which led me to making a list of My Personal Top 8 Personal Horror Flicks of all Time.
***The Number next to the Movie is the Number of Restless Nights after watching the movie (or nights I didn’t turn off the light until morning)
1. The Ring (Japanese Ringu 0,1,2) – 7
2. The Grudge (Japanese Juon)- 5
3. The Exorcist – 5
4. The Omen – 5
5. The Gate - Sure, its a B movie but watching it as a kid sure creeped me out for 3 days!
6. The Sixth Sense – 3
7. The Shining – 3
8. Nightmare on Elm Street 3 – 2 – The part where Freddy became a puppet master still haunts me. “One Two Freddys Coming For you…”
HORRORABLE MENTIONS:
The Blob – 1
Event Horizon – 1
Night of the Living Dead – 2
BlairWitch Project – 2
*Blairwitch got so much hype, as it was marketed to be a “true story” sort of documentary. However I watched it at the college theater and went home to an empty dormroom (my room mate was out for the night) which led me to dream about a person facing a corner in the far wall of the dark room
