Who buys white boots anyway? They dirty easily, they are hard to pull off unless you’re beautiful and model like and have a rockstar attitude and have lots of frilly white or pastel dresses to go with it. Or if the white nubuck leather just really matches your skin tone.
Apparently I am the idiot who bought white boots on a whim. Wore it once in the summer with a dress… and found it was too hot.
But these are one of the most comfy boots I’ve ever purchased. It was not super cheap but cheap enough to buy on a whim. Hence, the decision for the makeover.
THE DIY PART
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- pair of white or light colored boots
- dark dye (got mine from ebay, its a canadian brand that has an office in NY)
- sponge brush
- lots of confidence in yourself
STEPS:
1. Do your research. What dye, what process? Zelikovitz Leather and Crafts has an extensive array of leather dye and so far, they sell the most affordable sets.
2. Decide on a color and purchase your dye online. Got mine from Ebay, and it arrived a week or so after ordering.
3. Make time to paint, daytime if possible. Decide on outdoors. we have a tiny closed in apartment but i had a small balcony.
4. Cover your area where you will paint with newspaper or towels. Prepare a place holder for the brush.
5. shake the bottle, mix if the color is stuck at the bottom. * (I actually made a mistake with this because I got so excited to paint, i did the first coat at 7pm after work on a Thursday. The color barely showing as a murky green tinge. It was pretty much the excess water that gathered on top of the bottle that i used to paint)
6. Paint all areas, like you would any craft. A second coat will solidify the color. Give enough drying time in between coats for a better hold.
So far so good. Gonna do the top and inner parts another time. For now, I’ll let it dry out.
Stay tuned!
